By mapping the MapPLUTO dataset, isolating residential units within the given timeframe, comparing kernel density maps with different parameters, mapping the density of these units by neighborhood tabulation area, calculating the density of new residential properties and units per acre by NTA, and analyzing several kernel density calculations, I found that Old Astoria had the highest rate of new residential developments. The highest density of new residential developments was in Hunters Point-Sunnyside-West Maspeth and the lowest density of new residential developments was in Cambria Heights. Do street trees increase in density with distance from the park? Are street trees more concentrated where residential land uses are greatest? Through examining the surroundings of McCarren Park, this project aimed to evaluate 2007’s Million Trees Initiative in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
